Bechnya

Last Saturday we went to see a play called "Bechnya" at the Hudson Theatre. Despite the mixed reviews (that's what turned me on) and the traffic in that part of town, I asked my girlfriend (we are both actors) if she would like to see something different. When we walked in the theatre (nice place by the way) most of the people from the audience were speaking Russian (or I think). The actresses or anyone who is in this show I never heard of. I mean they are not celebrities whatsoever, plus they all have hard to pronounce names :) I asked my girl if she wants to do something else, but her answer was like "No, actually this people do know theatre". Boy, was she right !?! I don't really think of myself as a critic or anything, but what this show did to me and her, the way we walked out and the discussions we are still having about the story, the acting, the difference between the usual theatre around here and this European Art. I am so tired of our domestic Hollywood brainwashed crap. If I can give any advise to LA theatre people is: Go and see this show! You might like it or not, but you surely will see something different, something to think about and maybe learn!
